- Specialty coffee roaster offering opportunity to taste best coffees from nine countries -
June 10, 2009 (AUSTIN, TX)…Cuvee CoffeeRoasting Company in Spicewood recently became one of only five sites in the world, and the only one in Texas, to host group cuppings of coffees from the nine countries featured in the international Cup of Excellence competition. Cup of Excellence recognizes and auctions off the best coffees from their respective countries, as awarded by top cuppers from across the globe. The winning coffees are sold to the highest bidders, sometimes for more than $100 per pound.
Cuvee Coffee invested nearly $2,000 to join Cup of Excellence and purchase samples from each of the nine auctions, including: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Rwanda. Cuvee is hosting several cupping events – each focused on a separate country’s coffee from Cup of Excellence – over the next several months at its roasting shop at 22601 State Highway 71 in Spicewood to offer people the opportunity to learn about and taste some of the world’s best, and most expensive, coffees. The cost to participate is $10 per person, per cupping event and advance registration is required.
“Most people would never get the chance to try coffee that costs $40, $80, or even $100 per pound,” said Mike McKim, head of Cuvee Coffee. “We are excited to be a member of Cup of Excellence, share these distinctive coffees, and celebrate each of the international artisan farmers participating in the competition.”
The auctions take place between June 2009 and January 2010 and Cuvee Coffee is coordinating each cupping a few days after each respective country’s auction. Cuvee will announce the exact dates of the Cuvee cupping events in advance on its Web site and through a Facebook page. Those interested in the Cuvee Coffee cupping events can call 866-688-6608 for more information. For more information about Cup of Excellence, visit www.CupOfExcellence.org.
