$10,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED BY HOUSTON CHAPTER OF AMERICAN ADVERTISING FEDERATION

 Six Texas College Students Given Grants By Advertising Education Foundation of Houston

HOUSTON – (May 20, 2009) – The American Advertising Federation – Houston is proud to announce the awarding of six one-year scholarships to benefit area college students pursuing degrees in advertising or related areas of communication. With a combined value of $10,000, the scholarships were made possible through grants from the Advertising Education Foundation of Houston (AEFH), the charitable foundation of the American Advertising Federation - Houston (AAF-Houston).

“The goal of the AEFH is to make sure that Houston has available the best young communications talent in the nation,” said Bill Courtney, chairman of AEFH. “We are able to do this only through the amazing generosity of individuals such as Bill and Sharon Young, local agencies FKM and Lopez Negrete, and the members of AAF-Houston, all of whom contributed to make these grants possible.”

The following scholarships will be formally presented during the May 20 meeting of AAF-H at the Junior League of Houston.

Ø      Advertising Education Foundation of Houston Scholarship for $1,500 to Michael Scheel from Texas State University

Ø      Alice B. Rogers Scholarship in Memory of Brett Elliott in 2009 for $2,000 to Christine Marinas from the University of Houston

Ø      FKM Scholarship for $1,500 to Jamie Chan from the University of Texas

Ø      Bill and Sharon Young Media Education Scholarships for $1,500 each to:

o        Annie-Lee Taylor from the University of Texas

o        Victoria Tompkins from the University of Texas

Ø      Lopez Negrete Hispanic Marketing Education Scholarship for $2,000 to Dorina Carrillo-Gamboa from University of St. Thomas

“Since it’s founding AAF-H has directly, and since 2001 through AEFH, awarded more than fifty scholarships and grants to Houston area college students. These latest scholarships strongly demonstrate our vision of empowering future advertising professionals with the means to further their education and cultivate their passion for this industry. Please join with me to congratulate and encourage them because ultimately they will be the ones who shape the future of our industry,” added Dave Henry, chairman of AAF-Houston.
