A New Name for East Downtown
Naming contest to Name the District open to the public for submissions.
HOUSTON, TEXAS. MARCH 17,2008 -- History is what you make it and The East Downtown
Management District wants your help. That’s why we are currently accepting suggestions for
naming this vibrant district. The neighborhood is defined as the triangle east of downtown cre-
ated between the intersections 1-45, US-59 and the railroad. East Downtown offers some of the
most spectacular views of the Houston skyline and unmatched access to the Downtown Busi-
ness District, the East End and the historic Third Ward. Attractions such as Minute Maid Park,
Discovery Green Park, the expanded George R. Brown Convention Center, and the Toyota Cen-
ter are just blocks away.
The naming process will allow local Houstonians to give the district a unique identity that pre-
serves the heart and soul of its community while making its distinct place among the established
downtown districts. This is an opportunity for Houstonians to provide creative suggestions for
naming the neighborhoods we live, work and play in. East Downtown hopes to draw attention to
the varying districts, cultures and offerings of our city by capturing its unique essence.
Suggest as many names as you would like via the website www.namethedistrict.com. All sub-
missions must be received by May 15th, 2008. Each suggestion will be reviewed, and we will
announce the winning name on the web site as well as in a press release.
